Don’t Be Afraid to Start Small

On a recent business trip to Seattle, I had the chance to visit the original Starbucks.

It is in a superb location on the waterfront (although you can see the water from the coffee shop).

One of the things I found most interesting was how small it was. It is amazing to me that a small, single location was able to grow to become the international brand that it is today.

In contrast to the first location was the Starbucks Reserve – Seattle Roastery. This massive, modern coffee shop is a showcase for what the brand has become.

The takeaway: don’t be afraid to start small.

Too often, we let our pride or fear get in the way of starting something new.

You aren’t supposed to be good at something when you get started. Be patient with your progress and focus on getting consistent reps so you can evaluate if what you are pursuing is something you want to continue doing.

Be careful not to give up to soon!

Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable while you are learning and gaining experience.

Far too many people quit too soon, and often right before what could have been a breakthrough if they continued down the path a little longer.
