What Do You Need to Focus On to Finish This Year Strong?
October is the official start of the busiest holiday season in America. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years along with many other holidays will come in rapid succession over the next 14 weeks.
In the midst of all the fun and celebration, there is a mad dash to reach goals and milestones before the end of the year.
“Activity is up and people are focused. With little time to waste and with clear objectives to meet, workers focus on the critical projects and opportunities. Tasks that are not directly related to driving results are pushed aside for what really matters in the short-term,” according to Brian Moran and Michael Lennington in The 12 Week Year.
Focus on making things happen before the hard deadline of 11:59 PM on December 31st.
So what was happening in the previous 3 quarters?
Work is getting done, but typically not with the urgency or focus that the fourth quarter brings. There is something powerful in the human psyche about one year rolling over to the next.
December 31, 2018 will be here before you know it!
Take a few moments to reflect on the following three questions to help you identify what you should be focusing on and align your activities with them.
1. What are the one or two most important things you need to accomplish within the next 12 weeks to move your business forward?
2. What obstacles will you likely need to overcome or workaround?
3. What specific action steps do you need to take to reach your goal?
The formula for success is really quite simple.
Figure out what you want to accomplish.
Create an action plan.
That’s it. Nothing fancy. Just plain old-fashioned hard work.
Focused effort applied to the right things is the only way to achieve your goals.
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison.
