I have come to a deep understanding of something I have always known at a surface level:
I am at war with myself every moment of every day.
I’m at war with the natural human tendency to take the easy path instead of doing the right thing.
What is the right thing?
That depends on the situation, but in almost every station, the right thing usually shuns immediate gratification and focuses on long-term gain.
- Junk food tastes good in the moment, but eating too much of it has negative health consequences in the future.
- I don’t always feel like completing workouts, but this is what is required to keep my body and mind strong and healthy.
- Completing work projects today so I can get paid in the future.
The list goes on and on.
Every human is engaged in the same battle within, whether they realize it or not.
Modern society entices us to take the easy path, but that path seldom leads anywhere good.
This internal struggle is unwinnable and must be fought over and over again.
Sometimes I win. Sometimes I lose.
Discipline and creating the right environment are the keys to notching more wins than losses.
When a loss happens, which it will, acknowledge it, learn from it, and move forward.
No matter what, keep fighting.
You are worth the fight!
